EU representative scolds Russia for air raid in Georgia

Publication time: 12 July 2008, 08:31

European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana has had a telephone conversation with Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili.

Mr. Solana expressed deep concern with the tensions in Georgia's unrecognized breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and expressed disapproval of the air raid conducted by Russian warplanes in Georgia's airspace.

The coordinator of European Union's foreign policy has called on all sides of the conflict to exercise restrains and apply maximum efforts to ease the tensions in the conflict zones.

Mr. Solana has assured Georgian Foreign Minister that the European Union will be closely watching over the situation and reminded that the crisis may be solved exclusively by a political dialogue between the interested parties.
